Project of Common Interest

The European Union has designated the project as a Project of Common Interest (PCI). A PCI is an infrastructure project that supports the operations of energy systems of EU countries. It gives the project a higher status and streamlines the permitting and consenting process.

In 2019, Silvermines Hydroelectric Power Station entered the 4th PCI list number 2.29 and retained its designation as a PCI through to the 6th List PCI number 1.13 Hydroelectric Power Station Silvermines (IE) under the Trans-European Networks for Energy (TEN-E) Regulation 2022/869.

European Union Project of Common Interest

Silvermines Hydro is considered important for improving the European energy market and helping the EU meet its energy and climate targets.

As a PCI, Silvermines Hydro has access to financial support from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), a fund to develop Europe’s energy, transport and digital networks.

The EU’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) awarded Silvermines Hydro €4.3 million in 2023 to co-fund important environmental and design studies for project permitting.

Silvermines Hydro is now in the pre-planning phase
