Before Building Starts

In addition to being an EU Project of Common Interest, Silvermines Hydro must follow the same planning laws as any other development. Depending on the project's scale and type, applications can be made directly to An Bord Pleanála and the Local Planning Authority.

Planning approvals and licences

Before construction can start, Silvermines Hydro must obtain a Comprehensive Decision from An Bord Pleanála, the National Competent Authority for PCIs.

This means getting all the necessary planning approvals and licences from the following relevant authorities in place to allow the project promoter to start building.

  • Tipperary County Council

  • An Bord Pleanála (Strategic Infrastructure Development)

  • Commission for Regulation of Utilities

  • Other Regulatory Bodies (as applicable)
